Announced in June 2007 and released that October, the K850i was the flagship of Sony Ericsson's K (“Kamera”) series: a 5-megapixel Cyber-shot camera with a xenon flash for photos, three extra LEDs for video, and a side switch to jump between photo, video and playback. It broke with tradition in two ways: three touch-sensitive soft keys sat under the 2.2-inch screen, and the joystick that Sony Ericsson had used since the Ericsson T68 was gone. It was the company's first HSDPA phone, a 3G “global” phone with UMTS on 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz, and the first Sony Ericsson outside NTT DoCoMo to take microSD cards as well as Memory Stick Micro. Its Media Center borrowed the XrossMediaBar menu from Sony's PSP and PS3. Colours were Luminous Green, Velvet Blue and Quicksilver Black.
Often called a "cult classic" and one of Nokia's finest devices.

The K850i dropped the joystick Sony Ericsson phones had used since the Ericsson T68, in favour of three touch-sensitive soft keys.
