Announced on 1 March 2005, the W800 was the first Sony Ericsson phone to wear Sony's Walkman name. It came with a 512 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo for music, a flight mode that turned off the radios so it could be used purely as a player, and a stereo headset whose earphones plugged into a standard 3.5 mm jack, so owners could use their own. The 2-megapixel autofocus camera with flash was shared with the K750i, and the Smooth White finish paired burnt orange with cream. Its rivals included the Motorola ROKR E1 and the Nokia N91. It was popular enough to attract counterfeits: one Chinese copy, the “Music Mobile W800c”, even printed the Walkman logo flipped back to front. The W700 and W810 replaced it.
A top-selling Nseries phone in 2006-07; it helped Nokia's multimedia sales grow 28% year-on-year in Q3 2007.
